There was no hotter pony car in 1970 than the Hemi Challenger R/T, which today is recognized as a muscle car classic of great rarity. Dodge produced exactly 347 in the two door hardtop, which makes it the most looked for muscle car of all time.
R/T was a code name for a sports car that made its home on the road or the track. The base R/T started with the four barrel 335 hp 383 Magnum followed by the 375 hp 440 Magnum, then the 390 hp 440 Six Pack then the 426 Hemi which was the king.
Every car came with heavy duty suspension, Sure-Grip rear axle and optional Torque Flite 3 speed. The hot setup up was the Hurst 4 speed manual with extra heavy duty Dana 60 axle and 9 3/4" ring gear and digger 4.10:1 cogs.
Tires were stock F60 x 15 raised white letter Goodyears. It would do 13 second quarter miles at around 105 mph.
High backed bucket seats, Rally Cluster, 8000 rpm tach 160 mph speedo and trip odo with oil, water and amps gauges.
The long hood was set off with hood lock pins, R/T lettering,
duals exhausts and body side tape stripe.
